OVERVIEWThis project features a triptych typography poster inspired by Maya Angelou’s "Still I Rise," showcasing how typography can truly have a voice. The poster series draws on the imagery of growing vines—visually represented as swirling type that forms a word—to evoke the poem’s themes of resilience, empowerment, and hope. Two hands positioned on the sides symbolize the act of pushing against adversity; when one falls, these hands press against the ground (or a wall) to rise again. This dynamic imagery underscores the inner strength that allows us to rise "like air."

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.
